I've spent twenty years designing interiors for some of the most demanding clients on the Upper East Side. Then I adopted a Persian cat and discovered that my most exacting client of all weighed nine pounds and shed on everything.

Bijou came to me from a breeder in Connecticut, but her attitude suggests she descended from Egyptian royalty and has been waiting for the rest of us to catch up ever since. She is white, she is fluffy, and she has a face that — I say this with complete objectivity — belongs on a coin. She also has opinions about texture (velvet: yes; linen: absolutely not) that have genuinely influenced my purchasing decisions.

Bijou & Beau Monde was born from a simple frustration: the cat furniture on the market was, to put it charitably, an aesthetic tragedy. I knew there had to be better options. I found them. Now I write about them.

✨ Our Philosophy

Great design shouldn't stop at the cat flap. Your home should be beautiful in its entirety — and that includes the objects your cat uses. We believe in fewer, better things: pieces chosen with care, made with integrity, and beautiful enough to leave out when company comes.

🐱 How We Review

Every product undergoes a dual evaluation. I assess design, materials, craftsmanship, and whether it can hold a room. Bijou assesses comfort, texture, and whether it's worthy of her afternoon nap — which, trust me, is the harder test. If a product fails either of us, you won't find it here.
